Q.1) Explain briefly on Raja Shankar Shah and Raghunath Shah.
Ans) In 1857, the fire of revolution started from Meerut and was spreading all over India including Garha Mandla (Jabalpur). The inheritors of this state were Shankar Shah and his son Raghunath Shah. When his reign ended, Raja Shankar Shah was given a jaghir for his livelihood. Many meetings were held under the leadership of Raja Shankar Shah and his son Raghunath Shah regarding the plan to overthrow the British rule. Both, along with some soldiers of the 52nd Regiment, were going to revolt on the day of Muharram. But this plan could not succeed. They both were prosecuted for the crime of rebelling against the British rule and were sentenced to death. On 18 September 1857, both were tied to a cannon and blown up in Jabalpur.
